This is how the study reads. You follow the main teaching, and when you want more, a door opens. Here are three, drawn straight from the material.
The book opens, "your love is better than wine" (Song 1:2). The Hebrew is dodim, a plural noun translated as love, caresses, or lovemaking. Its context makes the opening unmistakably erotic, even where translators differ. The poem is bodily from its first breath. Reading it in Hebrew changes what you thought you were allowed to feel about it.
Sexuality research describes desire as two systems working at once. An accelerator that responds to what turns you on, and a brake that responds to worry, shame, distraction, and threat. Most people were only ever taught to push the accelerator. Understanding the brake, and what presses it, explains far more of real intimacy than willpower ever could.
Differentiation is the capacity to hold on to who you are while staying emotionally close to someone who matters. It is the quiet skill underneath honest desire, real repair, and lasting intimacy. The Song keeps two whole people in view, never one dissolving into the other, and that is the picture we work toward.

Nick holds a PhD in Counselor Education. He spent more than a decade teaching human sexuality, worked as a counselor, and has taught the Song of Songs since 2008. He understands evangelical purity culture from the inside, because he was formed by it.
