song of songs

a study in desire, the body & the sacred

This is not the sex talk you were raised on.

scroll

Explicit but never cheap. Rigorous but never cold. Knowledge over shame.

0

The age you had to reach, in ancient tradition, before you were allowed to read it.

0

The number of times the book names God. The only book in Scripture like it.

0

Sermons one medieval monk preached on it, without making it past the early chapters.

0

The book a great rabbi called the Holy of Holies. The holiest of them all.

why this study

Sex and sexuality, held in two hands at once.

Most teaching gives you only one. The church hands you theology with little honesty about the body. Therapy hands you the body with little sense of the sacred. Most of us were handed fear and told it was holiness. This study refuses to choose.

the theology

What Scripture actually says

We read the most scandalous book in the Bible closely, in the Hebrew, in its history, and let it speak plainly about desire, the body, and God. Reverent, and unflinching. The evidence that the sacred and the sensual were never enemies.

the counseling

What the body actually needs

We bring real clinical care to the real struggles. Shame, mismatched desire, pornography, betrayal, pain, the old wound. Named honestly, and met with the best of what counseling and sexuality science actually know.

Held together, they do what neither can alone. They help you become whole.

the study

Six sessions through the whole garden.

From the first spark to a love as strong as death. Each session pairs close exegesis with real clinical practice, and honest, tender storytelling.

session one

the greatest song

song 1

Into the light. The most erotic book in the Bible, and why it was almost hidden. We name the shame, and set it down.

session two

desire & longing

song 1 to 2

How wanting really works. The brakes and the accelerator of desire, and the courage to name what you long for.

session three

praise & knowing

song 2 to 4

The body, honestly. Praise without shame, presence over performance, and what it means to truly know another person.

session four

absence & the search

song 3 & 5

The dry spell, the missed doorway, the wound. Desire out of sync, and the long, honest road of the search.

session five

when it breaks

song 5 to 6

Conflict, rupture, and betrayal. What breaks a bond, and the real, patient work of repair.

session six

sealed upon the heart

song 8:6 to 7

Love as strong as death. Becoming whole, and a love that the many waters cannot quench.

questions

The honest answers.

is this anti-church?+
No. It is taught by someone who grew up in the church, served on pastoral staff, and still holds his faith seriously. It is honest about the harm done in the name of purity, and it does not flinch from that. But it is not a hit job on faith. It is an attempt to recover something the tradition largely lost, and the Song of Songs itself is the evidence that it was always there.
is it explicit?+
It is honest and direct about sex, the body, and desire, more direct than most Christian teaching has ever dared. It is never crude, and never gratuitous. It uses real language, real history, and real clinical care. It is made for adults who are done being talked to like children about their own bodies.
can my small group use it?+
Yes, and it is built for exactly that. The Digital plus Video tier includes Present Mode, so a leader can project the teaching to a room while everyone follows in their own workbook. Discussion questions are built into every session, at three levels: on your own, with your partner, and with the group.
do i have to be married?+
No. Married, single, dating, divorced, the study is about becoming a whole sexual person, which matters wherever you are. Some prompts have a with-your-partner option. Every one of them also stands on its own.
is it a real app?+
Yes. It installs on your phone, iPad, or laptop and opens full-screen like any app, and it works offline once loaded. There is no App Store download. You add it straight to your home screen, and we walk you through it in about thirty seconds.
is my journal private?+
Completely. What you write is saved only to your own device. No one else can see it unless you choose to share it.
the person behind it
nick t ogle, phd

I grew up in the church. I served on its staff. And I have been the man who broke things, who hid, who mistook shame for holiness and paid for it. I did not learn this in a seminary library. I learned it in the collapse, and in the long years of counseling and study it took to climb back out.

So this is not theory for me. It is the map I wish someone had put in my hands twenty years ago. That is the only reason it exists, and the only reason it is worth your trust.
